Who is Skye?
Skye (B. Sc. hons., Dip Perm.) - Since completing his Design Course eighteen years ago
Skye has been involved in many Permaculture Projects including city farms, food
co-operatives, recycling programs (Maleny Wastebusters) and education campaigns. After
moving to Crystal Waters come 11 years ago he was actively involved in the administration
and social development of both the immediate community and the wider community.
Over the last 9 years he has, in conjunction with Robin played a central role in the
development and implementation of the new interactive, 'people-oriented' method of
teaching Permaculture. Other interests include participatory design processes, ceramics,
computer communications, deep ecology and writing.
Since 1996 Skye has spent much of his time working and teaching Permaculture
in Mexico, in the high dry plateau area of the Bajio. But in mid- 2000 moved to live
permanently in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil where he is working in helping
with food security for local indigenous communities, in conjunction with his partner Ivone
Riquelme.
From 1997 to 2000 he was a director of the Instituto de Permacultura de Mexico A.C. -
which is developing a demonstration site near San Miguel de Allende (Guanajuato) and
endorses the various course formats used in Mexico
In 1998 Skye and Robin conducted Advanced Teachers Training Courses in Mexico, Cuba,
Germany, England, Kenya and South Africa, before again returning to Australia.
In 1993 both Robin and Skye were awarded the Permaculture Community Service Award for
"vision and work forming an essential and selfless contribution to the promotion of
Permaculture..."
