Appreciative Open Space
Its your turn! You stand in front of a bed of hot coals recently raked from the large fire. The bed is 2 meters wide by 6 meters long and parts are glowing red still. You are about to walk across this bed. You are barefooted!! You stand still and quiet. You forget your friends waiting behind you. Braeth deep and calmly. Forget the fears. In your mind, see yourself on the other side of the bed shoting "Yes, I did it..". See it very clearly And you are there. As you turn back to see the bed of coals you just walk over, a big smile covers your face.... Yes, it is possible to walk on hot coals barefooted. Some cultures have been doing it for centuries. In more recent medical research, it is well documented that who beleive they will recover, do recover better - even if the doctor is giving them useless pills of sugar containing no medication at all. Similar results have been found in training, in schools and in the army. Students with a positive attitude perfrom better than those without this attitude. And more interestingly, students with a teacher with a positive attitude perform better than those with less inspired teachers in fact it seems that the final results of a class depends more on the teachers attitude than on the teachers skill or knowldege, or on the initial intelligence oif the students. All of this documented reasearh shows that the future is created, or at least strongly influenced by what a person thinks the future will be. There is also some evidence (not as extensive) that suggests that this concept applies at a community level as well. As a community, our future is created by our group ideas, by our group visions, by the group images. It is not possible to predict the futre. It is possible to create it. If a community, group or business sees its operation and future in terms of problems to be faced and solved it will have a future full of problems to be faced and solved. That is undoubted. A group or community that changes it vision, its story to one of empowerment, positive experiences and powerful sucess stories, then it will create a future of empowerment, of positive and successful stories. A future of unique opportunities, and exciting development. What future do you want for your group/organisation? What is the future of your group/organisation? What future is your group/organisation creating? You are invited to attend a full-day workshop to create the future of ............ Date, time, place Facilitated by Skye (director de Instituto de Permacultura de Mexico AC), this workshop will be a blend of two highly successful international conference formats, Appreciate Inquiry and Open Space Technology.
